Hawaii Hotel Occupancy drops 12.6%; Book Your Vacation Now
Some recent figures released this week bode very well for anyone interested in booking a vacation or honeymoon in Hawaii this winter or spring. Visitor industry inside sources in Hawaii are reporting that hotels are experiencing, on average, a 12.6 per cent drop in occupancy. You know what that means – Hotel prices are dropping and vacation booking values are here!

Hawaii’s visitor industry ended the year on a sour note, with statewide hotel occupancy down 12.6 percentage points to 66.4 percent.
Hotel room rates fell as well, compared to the same week in 2007 — down 13.8 percent to $265 a night.
The holiday season is usually Hawaii’s strongest, with many properties posting their highest room rates and occupancy figures.
Occupancy and room rates for the four main Hawaiian islands were as follows:
- Oahu occupancy fell 7.4 percentage points to 68.4 percent, while room rates fell 17.3 percent to $196;
- Maui occupancy dropped 16.4 percentage points to 67.2 percent, while room rates were off 2.1 percent to $415 a night;
- Mauai occupancy plunged 16.6 percentage points to 65.5 percent, while room rates declined 16.3 percent; and
- Big Island occupancy plummeted 21.9 percentage points to 58.5 percent, while room rates decreased 26.2 percent to $248.
Nationwide, hotel occupancy fell 7 percentage points to 35.8 percent, while room rates dropped 9.5 percent to $92.
The weekly Hawaii hotel industry snapshot is surveyed by Smith Travel Research and Hospitality Advisors.
That’s quite a drop. The rates are going to drop significantly. Time to book for those who want to get the the 50th state.

big island definitely got hit the hardest. it’s the best place to go in Hawaii if you want the best deal on hotels. a lot of the activities like snorkeling and coffee farm tours are giving away some great package deals, as well. if you’re headed there for a honeymoon you can get a lot for your money, compared to the other islands.
