Disney Hawaii Resort to Begin Construction on Nov 19, 2008

12 November 2008

Blueprint of new Disney Hawaii Family Resort

The Pacific Business News reported today that Disney has announced the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Disney Hawaii family resort will be held Nov. 19, 2008.

The formal Hawaiian blessing and groundbreaking will be held on the future resort’s 21 beautiful oceanfront acres at the Ko Olina Resort & Marina in West Oahu.

Readers will remember our Hawaii Vacation Guide originally blogged about the Disney Hawaii Resort a couple weeks ago.  We know the resort won’t be open until 2011, but we also know it’s going to include all kinds of cool amenities, such as a lush garden and a volcano caldera in between two 800-room towers.  There’s also plans for a 50 foot thatched canoe house.

Disney has also planned plenty of attractions for family activities, such as an aquatic play structure for kids (no more details on that yet) and a saltwater snorkeling lagoon that will include fish and “some elements of Disney characters.”

We can’t wait until the new Disney Hawaii Resort is open for business so we can give Mickey Mouse a lei … how about you?

Wow, Disney is really making it big. I’m looking forward to see how the aquatic structure will turn out. I might want to take my family there if it turns out great.
